My article is called "Podcasting" and I found it on learninginhand.com. A podcast is a series of audio or video on the web that can be cataloged and automatically downloaded. Students and teachers everywhere are learning and teaching from audio and video programs on ipods, desktops, and many other devices. Putting audio and vdieo on the web isn't something new but in 2004 a new way of downloading audio and video emerged, called podcasting. A podcast has a news feed that allows to be cataloged in various directories like iTunes and others. A popular directory is Podcast Alley, when you find the one you want to, simply click its Subscribe button.
There are three kinds of podcasts. Audio are usually in MP3 files and are the most common. Enhanced can have images and audio and are AAC file. Video, the last type of podcasts are movies with complete sound are usually MPEG-4 files. Teachers will find podcast episodes for students for listen to or watch.
Creating podcasts also has many educational benefits, students are able to create a product to share with a world-wide audience. Knowing there is an audience gives students purpose and motivation to create a great product. I think having podcasts in classrooms can only help the learning process. Audio and video that relate to the subject being taught can be used in any grade and I believe that it will be effective.

This article really showed me what podcast are. I didn't know there were different type and etc. I think theyre a great way for students to learn and express their views and etc around the world!
Lauren, I appreciated reading your input on the technical names of the file formats commonly associated with podcasts. Did you know that you can also playback those commonly used formats for iPods on other gadgets as well. Smartphones, Playstation Portable and similar devices all are capable of playing nearly all podcasts available. I also agree completely with your saying that Podcasting offers students a new incentive to produce a quality product and thereby engaging more thoroughly in their education. Generally I have found it to be true that when students are requested to produce any kind of audio/video piece they give a little extra effort than apposed to a research paper, for example.
Good post Lauren! You showed that you read the article well and gained a lot of knowledge from the information. You also allowed for me to gain more knowledge about the concepts. Like you, I feel as though children are more excited and will show more effort on a podcast (movie/audio) rather than just sitting down and writing ANOTHER boring paper.
Lauren,
I agree with you on the fact that students will probably work hard and do better on podcasting knowing that they have a wolrdwide audience. They know that others will be seeing their work so more than likely they will want to do their best work. I do however believe that the worldwide audience factor could be a somewhat bad thing. Teachers may run into a problem with parents not wanting their students to be broadcast all over the internet and it may be somewhat dangerous. We all know that the internet can be a very dangerous place and we all need to approach it cautiously. Good job!
